This Time with Feeling

WHAT are the things that make us happy nowadays?

Back in the day, it might have been an easy question to answer – friends, family, work, food, drink, husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc.

But today it isn’t so cut and dry anymore.

The modern-day person has a lot on their plate. Work is no longer contained to 9-5, body image pressures weigh down even more heavily through social media and celebrity culture, exams, essays, bills, cars, starting families, ending families, the constant rush from point A to point B, the list goes on and on.

Sometimes I feel like I’m being pulled in too many different directions and I’m stuck on an emotional rollercoaster with no brakes. I can find myself stressed and upset for no real reason other than simply feeling that way.

Add a subheading

This blog was originally created as a space to express myself through different writing styles. And like many of the other projects in my life it’s fallen away in the face of work, uni and family and friends. It’s easy, I think, to forget about the simple things that allow us to de-stress, detox, and escape from the hamster wheel of our daily lives.

Yet, I’ve noticed recently a few people invading my social media sphere of perfection and celebrities and bad news, with their love affairs with music, food and even one pal who’s in love with her new cords (I feel you, gal).

It really struck home to me that To Bookishly Go began as a journey of self-discovery (and trust me I cringed reading that too), and I have forgotten that.

It wasn’t just about “boldly going where no man has gone before”, but about being confident in my ability to say “hello, this is me and this is what I have to say”.

So I’ve decided to start again (again). Be prepared for one Glasgow gal’s journey to happiness, because this is me and this is what I have to say.
